The Legend of Zelda Movie Casts Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, and More
Nintendo and Sony Pictures are bringing the fantasy world of Hyrule to the big screen with a live-action Legend of Zelda film, set for release in April 2027. According to a report from Polygon, director Wes Ball aims for a grounded, real approach, using live actors instead of relying solely on motion-captured CGI.
Two lead roles were officially confirmed by Nintendo. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, known for The Haunting of Bly Manor and House of the Dragon, will play the hero Link. Bo Bragason, who starred in Disney Plus's Renegade Nell, has been cast as Princess Zelda.
Several other key casting details have emerged. Per Polygon, Uli Latukefu, best known for playing Dwayne Johnson in Young Rock, has reportedly been tapped to play the villain Ganondorf. Dichen Lachman, from Severance and Agents of SHIELD, is confirmed to be playing Zelda's bodyguard, Impa.
The report also indicates that the late Sam Neill will appear in one of his final roles as Zelda's father, the King of Hyrule. Yvonne Strahovski, of The Handmaid's Tale and Chuck fame, is reportedly playing the Queen of Hyrule. Deadline added that Lydia Peckham, who worked with Ball on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will appear in an unidentified role.
Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, has stated the movie will simply be called The Legend of Zelda. He explained that the film is an original story drawing on the franchise's 40-year history.
