The Odyssey Swims Past Deadpool & Wolverine as Top R-rated Film Ever

Christopher Nolan's action epic, *The Odyssey*, has officially knocked *Deadpool & Wolverine* out of the record books. According to a report by Variety, the R-rated historical film has now grossed more money globally than any other R-rated movie in history.
The milestone was reached when *The Odyssey* surpassed $1.352 billion worldwide, narrowly exceeding the Marvel film's $1.338 billion total. Per MovieWeb, its box office run has continued strongly from there, with its total now sitting at approximately $1.79 billion.
This makes Nolan's film the first R-rated movie to ever cross the $1.7 billion threshold. It is also now the highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures' long history, beating out *Jurassic World*.
The film, starring Jon Bernthal as Menelaus alongside Matt Damon's Odysseus, debuted in July to a massive $123 million domestic opening. Its success has been fueled by strong staying power and huge interest in premium formats like IMAX, which alone has contributed over $350 million to the total.
