Zhang Yimou appointed jury president for Busan film festival competition
Acclaimed director Zhang Yimou will preside over the competition jury at the upcoming 31st Busan International Film Festival, per Variety. The festival confirmed seven jurors for the section's second edition.
Zhang, whose decorated career includes a Golden Bear win for 'Red Sorghum' and Golden Lion victories at Venice, will lead the panel. His history with the festival dates back to 2010.
Joining him on the jury are director Bi Gan, actor and filmmaker Moon Choi, and Japanese director Ishikawa Kei. The panel is rounded out by South Korean director July Jung, Vietnamese producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, and Kazakhstani actor Samal Yeslyamova.
The group will evaluate 13 films in competition. The Busan Award includes prizes for best film, director, and actor, with a total purse of roughly $80,350.
Following Busan's recent designation as an A-list festival by FIAPF, the best film winner will now qualify directly for the Oscars' international feature category. The festival runs from October 6 to 15.
