The show
The Targaryen dynasty is at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins when King Viserys breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm.
The Cast
The Real Review
People are pretty split on this one. The acting is strong, with Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy getting specific praise, and the dragons and production value are reliably stunning. But the story's reception is lukewarm, and the biggest complaint by far is the glacial pacing, which a lot of people find frustrating. Many of the central characters, like Rhaenyra, Alicent, and Criston Cole, seem to be wearing thin on viewers, though Matt Smith's Daemon remains a compelling anchor for some.
