Her Private Hell

This is a very divisive, style-over-substance Nicolas Winding Refn film. People who vibe with its relentless, neon-drenched visuals and synth score by Pino Donaggio get what they came for, but most think the story about a young woman, Elle, searching for her father is a thin and frustrating mess. The plot, which collides her quest with a GI trying to rescue his daughter from Hell, gets slammed for being incoherent and punishingly slow, with the pacing singled out as a major flaw. The cast, led by Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton, is fine but can't save it from a narrative that feels like a beautiful, empty slog.
