Obsession

Opinion is split down the middle on this one, with a slight lean toward the positive. People agree that Inde Navarrette as Nikki is the clear standout, delivering a performance that's both compelling and believable. The acting overall and the film's humor are its strongest points, getting consistent praise. Where it loses folks is in the story itself, which feels familiar and a bit thin for a tale about a guy, Bear, who uses a magical willow to win his crush and faces dark consequences. The main character, Bear, is a big problem for many viewers, who found him frustrating and hard to root for. So while it's carried by a great lead performance and some solid laughs, the central romance and its predictable, sinister turn don't fully land.
