The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

This reboot is a tough sell for most people, who split it right down the middle with a lean toward the negative. The story of a girl, Katie Cannon, who returns to her broken family after eight years is seen as painfully unoriginal and a slog to get through, with the pacing slammed by nearly everyone who mentioned it. The only bright spot is the visuals, which get consistent praise for their style. Otherwise, director Lee Cronin takes the brunt of the criticism, and the cast—including Jack Reynor and Laia Costa as the parents—mostly fails to leave a positive impression.
