The film
After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.
It's a divisive ride, with most people loving the bizarre premise but a sizable chunk feeling it falls apart in the execution. The concept of the Platt family, led by Denise and Greg, surviving after their street is ripped away is a huge hit, praised as wildly original and visually stunning. Where it loses people is the story itself, which many found thin and unsatisfying once the initial mystery wears off. Anne Hathaway gets credit for holding the center as Denise, though director David Robert Mitchell's handling of the plot drew more criticism than praise.
