A 'Hawaii Five-O' Movie Is Officially in the Works at Paramount
Paramount is moving forward with a film adaptation of the classic police series Hawaii Five-O, according to a report from Variety.
The studio has tapped Destin Daniel Cretton to direct the project. Cretton is the filmmaker behind the recent Marvel hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The script will be written by Chris Bremner, known for his work on Bad Boys for Life.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, as the project is still in its early development phase. Deadline Hollywood was first to report the news of the reboot.
The original Hawaii Five-O series, created by Leonard Freeman, aired from 1968 to 1980. It was famously rebooted for CBS in 2010, running for ten seasons. Previous attempts to make a movie version never got off the ground.
Cretton also directed the Marvel film Shang-Chi, which introduced a new hero to the cinematic universe. His latest Spider-Man film has been a massive box office success since its summer release.
