Alan Rickman brought kids to 'Harry Potter' set daily, says Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman is sharing a sweet memory of his late co-star Alan Rickman, revealing the actor who played Severus Snape went out of his way to share the magic of the films with young fans.
Speaking at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, Oldman told Variety that Rickman would bring children to the set "every single day." He would get them from schools or hospitals, or bring friends' kids, to tour the sets and meet the cast during lunchtimes.
Oldman said Rickman was deeply aware of how special the 'Harry Potter' world was and knew what a visit would mean to the kids. "He wanted to share it," Oldman explained, calling Rickman "the cheerleader" of the whole experience, fully committed and invested in it.
In other comments reported by Variety, Oldman also weighed in on HBO's upcoming 'Harry Potter' TV series. He believes it will be "more satisfying" because the show can cover more of the wizarding world than the films could. Oldman noted the movies had to cut a lot, yet still ran long, and he thinks the series will adapt the books "pretty much word-for-word."
Alan Rickman passed away in 2016 after battling cancer. He starred in all the 'Harry Potter' films, as well as iconic roles in 'Die Hard' and 'Truly Madly Deeply.'
