Creative Assembly is finally spooling up the sequel fans have waited over a decade for. Alien: Isolation 2 is slated to land next year, promising a return to the series' signature survival horror, per an IGN interview with the creative leads.

Creative Director Al Hope confirmed players will not step back into the shoes of Amanda Ripley. Instead, they'll control a new protagonist named Blake, a company employee who has never faced the Xenomorph before. The story will also shift to a new, undisclosed planet location.

The developers told IGN their design philosophy remains laser-focused on Ridley Scott's original 1979 film. Project Art Director Ana Sopikova said the team has deep access to 20th Century Studios' archives, including behind-the-scenes photos from the set, to study the materials and construction of the original creature costume for authentic recreation.

Sopikova added that the Xenomorph in the sequel is the same creature from the first game, which has now landed on this new planet. While technological advances allow for higher fidelity and more detail, the team is not reinventing the iconic monster, staying true to the 1979 aesthetic.

When asked about the game's place in the official Alien canon, Hope deferred to the fans, noting their embrace of the first game is what matters most. He also expressed the team was thrilled to see the original game's save phone appear as an Easter egg in the recent film Alien: Romulus.

The interview also confirmed a photo mode will be included, though developers remained coy about whether a popular VHS-style color filter mod from the first game would make an official return.
