Andrew Garfield is Sam Altman in new 'Artificial' trailer, film lands Christmas release

Andrew Garfield is Sam Altman in new 'Artificial' trailer, film lands Christmas release

A trailer has dropped for Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film "Artificial," which stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI founder Sam Altman. The movie centers on the 2023 scandal in which Altman was abruptly fired from the company, only to be reinstated five days later. Neon, the film's distributor, will release it in theaters on Christmas Day, per Variety.

The first look shows Garfield as Altman, with the actor appearing in scenes that depict the dramatic corporate upheaval at the artificial intelligence research lab. The trailer sets the stage for the intense boardroom drama that captivated the tech world late last year.

Guadagnino, known for films like "Call Me by Your Name," directs the project, which dramatizes the real-life events surrounding Altman's ouster and swift return. The film is positioned as a timely look at the power struggles within one of the world's most influential AI companies.

With the Christmas release date, Neon is clearly aiming for awards season consideration. The studio has a track record of launching prestige projects during the holiday corridor to maximize critical and audience attention ahead of the Oscars.
