Avengers: Doomsday already sets $50 million box office record months before release
Marvel's next team-up is already racking up cash before a single ticket has been torn. Per /Film, Disney CFO Hugh Johnston announced that "Avengers: Doomsday" has crossed $50 million in pre-sales a full 100 days before its December 18 debut, calling it a first in movie history.
The milestone comes despite the film facing a direct box office clash with "Dune: Part Three" on the same day, a scenario dubbed "Dunesday." According to the report, Disney has introduced its own premium large-format screen system to compete because IMAX slots are largely booked by the rival sandworm saga.
ScreenRant separately notes that advance screenings appear to be scheduled for December 16, two days before the wide release. Social media posts reportedly show listings for a 7:30 PM showing at the Grenada Hills 9 at Regency theater.
The outlet also confirms the massive cast, which includes Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, returning original Avengers like Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, and a host of X-Men actors from the Fox era, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are back after helming "Infinity War" and "Endgame."
While the $50 million pre-sale figure points to a huge opening, the ultimate test will be its staying power.
