Carrie adaptation dominates streaming in its debut week

The new Prime Video series based on Stephen King's Carrie just had a killer opening. According to Nielsen data reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the show was the number one streaming title in the U.S. for the week of October 5-11.

The eight-episode modern update pulled in 1.26 billion minutes of viewing on television sets. The strong debut follows the service's announcement of a second season renewal for the series.

Prime Video has held the top overall streaming spot six out of the last eight weeks. Its hit Reacher previously led the charts four times before another spinoff, Neagley, took a turn at number one.

Other notable performers for the week included Netflix's Below, which landed in second place with 1.19 billion minutes. The streamer's East of Eden saw a 49 percent jump to 1.16 billion minutes, securing third place.

Nielsen's ratings track TV set viewing in the United States and do not include watching on phones or computers.
