Prime Video renews Mike Flanagan's Carrie for Season 2

Mike Flanagan's Prime Video series Carrie is officially coming back for more. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer has handed the Stephen King adaptation a second season.

The renewal arrived just two weeks after the show's eight-episode first season debuted on October 7. Per the outlet, it topped the charts in over 100 countries for Amazon in its first two weeks.

Flanagan, who adapted the book, will continue to lead the series as its showrunner and an executive producer. Stephen King will also stay on as an executive producer. Peter Friedlander, who oversees television for Amazon MGM Studios, stated that the show is pulling in both die-hard King fans and a younger crowd, especially women and international viewers.

Season 1 followed Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, as she entered high school and grappled with bullying and emerging telekinetic powers. The new season will pick up after the infamous prom night events. Flanagan told TVLine that from the start, the plan was to continue the story past that iconic moment.

King himself added his excitement, saying he can't wait for people to see what's next for Carrie and that it will be thrilling. The cast from the first season included Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, and Matthew Lillard.
