DC's Clayface Opens to $24 Million Weekend, Budget Makes It a Potential Hit

The DC superhero horror movie 'Clayface' clawed up $24 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, per TheWrap. While that's lower than last summer's $37 million opening for the flop 'Supergirl,' the film's reported $40 million budget provides a much easier path to profitability.
According to the report, the film's opening is seen as a positive sign for DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are steering the franchise towards a mix of big epics and smaller-budgeted films. The outlet notes the film earned strong audience ratings, which should help it through the Halloween weekend.
TheWrap's analysis suggests the film's performance is a relief for Warner Bros. after the commercial failure of 'Supergirl.' The global opening for 'Clayface' is reported at $43 million.
Elsewhere at the box office, A24's documentary 'You Can See Everything' had a huge $19.5 million second weekend after a nationwide expansion. Laika's PG-13 animated film 'Wildwood' opened to $11.6 million, while the video game adaptation 'Street Fighter' tanked in its second weekend, dropping 72%.
Rounding out the top five was the fantasy rom-com 'Wicker,' which opened to $5.75 million for new distributor Black Bear.
