Denzel Washington's historical epic is Netflix's biggest streaming hit

Denzel Washington's 148-minute historical epic has reportedly become the biggest streaming hit on Netflix, per /Film. While the film did not gain major traction during the 2024 awards season, it is now finding a massive audience on the platform.

The outlet describes the movie as having enough brutal spectacle to entertain viewers for its long runtime, noting Washington's performance as a devious character is a major highlight. It suggests the film is best enjoyed as a large-scale, couch-bound viewing experience.

Despite some uneven computer-generated imagery, the physical scale of the production is said to be frequently impressive. The review posits that Ridley Scott's crafted world remains immersive on a sufficiently large screen at home.

Washington was initially considered a contender for Best Supporting Actor earlier in the 2024 Oscar season, but the film was ultimately viewed by the Academy as more of a technical achievement. /Film notes the actor delivers some of his most vibrant work in years, calling his turn a diabolical delight that elevates the material.
