Elder Scrolls Online content delayed to 2027 following Xbox layoffs
The Elder Scrolls Online is hitting a major delay, according to reporting from IGN and Kotaku. Major new features for the MMO have been pushed all the way back to 2027, a move developers have linked directly to the recent layoffs at Xbox and its parent company Microsoft.
Kotaku reports that the studio's new director addressed the changes with the community, where some players are not taking it well. One fan described the slowdown as brutal, having expected a slower drip of content instead of a years-long wait.
This means the long-running fantasy game will have to rely on its existing roadmap for the foreseeable future, a significant setback for its live-service model.
