Fairgames resurfaces with first gameplay and a new codename
Sony's long-absent heist shooter Fairgames may have just broken cover with its first real look. According to a report from IGN, the project has popped up on a playtesting site under the codename 'Project Espresso,' complete with a gameplay trailer.
The listing reportedly shows footage that lines up with the art and concept of Fairgames, and notes the title is in development for PS5 and PC. Per IGN, Sony also filed a trademark earlier this year for a game called 'Break In,' which some have speculated could be the final name for this project.
IGN notes the game's development has been rocky, with the exits of key leadership figures from the studio. Internal feedback from early tests was also reportedly negative, contributing to the title's long silence since its initial reveal three years ago.
This re-emergence comes amid a turbulent period for Sony's live-service ambitions. IGN points to the recent commercial failure of Concord, the cancellation of The Last of Us Online, and a general cooling on the genre.
PlayStation has not officially commented on the playtest listing.
