First 'Remain' trailer reveals Shyamalan and Sparks' supernatural romance
Warner Bros. has debuted the first teaser for M. Night Shyamalan's 'Remain', a supernatural romance film born from an unusual collaboration with author Nicholas Sparks. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer introduces Jake Gyllenhaal as a reclusive architect named Tate who moves to a coastal town. There, he meets an alluring woman named Wren, played by Phoebe Dynevor.
The footage, released Tuesday, shows the pair bonding over board games and falling in love. The tone soon darkens, however, hinting at a 'deadly mystery' and a 'darker secret reality' the couple must face. 'Trust the unknown,' the trailer teases.
JoBlo reports that Sparks and Shyamalan created the original story together before adapting it independently for their respective mediums. Sparks published a novel version last October, while Shyamalan wrote and directed the film. In an interview with THR, Sparks recounted how he and Shyamalan first crossed paths decades ago when the studio considered the young screenwriter for 'The Notebook'.
Sparks praised the film's leads, telling THR that Gyllenhaal was 'great' and that Dynevor was 'terrific' among a shortlist of candidates. /Film notes a visible age gap between the 45-year-old Gyllenhaal and the 31-year-old Dynevor in the trailer.
Shyamalan directs from his own screenplay and produces the project. 'Remain' is scheduled for release on Valentine's Day 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
