FromSoftware shuts down Dark Souls 2 and 3 multiplayer servers

Developer FromSoftware has temporarily taken the multiplayer servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 offline, PC Gamer reports. The shutdown is due to an unspecified 'server issue' and affects all platforms for both games.

The company has not provided a reason for the outage or a timeline for when players can expect the servers to be restored. According to the report, FromSoftware said it will provide an update on the restoration timeline once it has more information.

This incident is notably different from a previous, extended server shutdown in early 2022. That earlier issue was related to a major security vulnerability and only affected PC servers. The current problem is impacting consoles as well, but only involves the two sequels, not the entire Dark Souls series.

The report notes that for PC players, a popular mod called Seamless Co-op provides a workaround. Created by modder Yui, the mod runs on its own servers, separate from FromSoftware's official ones, allowing for uninterrupted cooperative play.

The Seamless Co-op mod for Dark Souls 2 launched at the end of September, joining the existing mod for Dark Souls 3. It allows players to progress through the entire game together without being disconnected after dying or defeating a boss.
