Gilles Villeneuve's Son Moved to Tears by New F1 Biopic Footage
The new Formula One biopic 'Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend' will close the Toronto International Film Festival with its world premiere on September 19, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
In an exclusive clip, Jacques Villeneuve, the son of the late racing legend, shared his emotional reaction to seeing footage of the film for the first time. "I was in tears, it was so poignant," he told THR. "From those two minutes, it looks like the job has been really well done."
The film, directed by Yan Lanouette Turgeon, stars Rémi Goulet as Gilles Villeneuve and Rosalie Bonenfant as his wife. It chronicles the driver's rise from humble Quebec roots to international F1 stardom with Ferrari. Per the report, the film also portrays the impact his career and fame had on his family.
Jacques Villeneuve noted that the passage of time since his father's death in a 1982 crash helped make the project possible. "Time needs to pass," he said, suggesting it allows stories to be passed down through generations. He will miss the Toronto premiere due to his own F1 punditry duties at another race.
The film is produced by Christian Larouche, with a screenplay by Daniel Roby and Guillaume Lonergan.
