Godzilla Minus Zero electrifies Tokyo Film Festival with fan-filled screenings

The Tokyo International Film Festival got a major jolt of monster energy this weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, two sold-out screenings of Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus Zero drew lively crowds full of costumed fans and their own kaiju figurines.
The sequel, which serves as Japan's centerpiece film for the festival, was met with rapturous applause as audiences exited into the Ginza district, an area featured in the film's destruction. Its stars, Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe, appeared in person to greet fans before the showings.
Kamiki told the crowd he felt both excitement and a little fear with the release so close. Hamabe noted the pressure to make the sequel bigger and better than its Oscar-winning predecessor, expressing curiosity about how viewers would react.
The actors were joined by child star Sae Nagatani, who completes their on-screen family. Kamiki hinted that Godzilla's return forces their characters to make difficult choices in order to protect their loved ones.
Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japan on November 3. GKIDS will release the film in North American theaters on November 6, following IMAX early-access screenings on November 3.
