GTA 6 fans debate realism as new gun rules and car refueling details surface

Rockstar's commitment to realism in Grand Theft Auto 6 is sparking a major debate among fans. IGN reports that new details about gun mechanics and vehicle refueling have players questioning if the upcoming game is going too far.

During an interview with YouTuber TGG, Rockstar's Rob Nelson outlined a new, nuanced system for how NPCs react to weapons. Per IGN, Nelson explained that simply carrying a long gun on your back is fine, but holding one in your hands will cause people to move away. Cops will issue warnings, and brandishing a weapon ready to fire will escalate the situation.

Nelson contrasted this with GTA 5, where players could pull out a shotgun from nowhere with no reaction. He told TGG that with the game's improved visual resolution and behavioral sophistication, that old approach no longer works.

The realism push extends to your ride. IGN notes that Nelson confirmed gas stations will be functional, allowing players to repair and refuel their vehicles. The outlet reports that filling up takes about ten seconds and isn't typically expensive, but Rockstar anticipated fan pushback on pausing a car chase for a pit stop.

Fan reactions, as compiled by IGN, are split. Some players joked the game will next make you file tax returns, calling the ultra-realism exhausting. Others champion the immersion, arguing it will create unique gameplay moments like having to ditch a car and flee on foot when you run out of gas during a police chase.

According to IGN, Rockstar is also implementing systems to track whether protagonists Jason and Lucia are well-rested, with sleep affecting attribute regeneration. The outlet notes a grocery shopping mechanic was reportedly cut for being too realistic.
