Gundam Rogue Orbit Promises Flashy, Accessible Mech Combat
Bandai Namco's upcoming Gundam Rogue Orbit is aiming to be a stylish and welcoming entry into the franchise. According to Polygon, the game is a high-mobility action title set in a new universe, designed so players don't need prior Gundam knowledge.
After going hands-on at Tokyo Game Show, the outlet reports the combat feels more like Devil May Cry than a punishing Soulslike. It's described as fun and flashy, with a focus on melee attacks using swords, lances, and a 'whip sword' rather than overwhelming difficulty.
Players control pilot RE-X in the Gundam Helix, fighting alien creatures called Apocalypse. The demo featured three weapon assemblies, each with unique Tactical Skills for powerful screen-filling attacks and AP Units for abilities like shields. A powered-up state called Over-Rise offers temporary auto-dodges and a devastating ultimate attack.
The game promises deep customization for both combat and the mobile suit's appearance. Bandai Namco has set a release date of March 5, 2027. It will be available on Sony's PlayStation 5, Microsoft's Xbox Series X, and computers via Windows.
