Insomniac patches Wolverine's 'fart gas' scent trails after fan backlash

Insomniac patches Wolverine's 'fart gas' scent trails after fan backlash

Insomniac Games has dialed back the visual intensity of the controversial scent trails in Marvel's Wolverine. Per IGN, a new hotfix reduces the opacity of the trails and audio sense indicators, making them "less intense."

The trails, which guide Logan to objectives using his mutant senses, were widely mocked online as "fart gas" for their bright, gaseous appearance. Kotaku reports the update changes the trail from a neon line to a more subtle pool of color on the ground.

According to patch notes posted by the studio and reported by Polygon, the team is also exploring options to let players toggle the feature off completely in a future update. Community director James Stevenson had previously stated the scent trails were a canonical part of Logan's tracking abilities, only appearing during specific story moments.

The change comes after significant player feedback criticizing the trails as overly hand-holding. The hotfix also addressed some crash issues in the PlayStation 5 exclusive.
