Insomniac's Wolverine gets bloody, gets a lore tweak, and gets an apology
Insomniac Games has launched its brutal take on the Marvel hero in Marvel's Wolverine, a game that promises to be "unapologetically violent," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Game director Mike Daly told the outlet that combat was built to be honest to how the character would behave.
Despite the focus on carnage, THR's report notes the game aims to explore Logan's human side. Set in a world without the X-Men, the story follows Logan as he rejoins Team X on a rescue mission that spirals into a larger conspiracy involving ninja clan The Hand.
IGN highlighted a specific lore detail. Early in the game, character Walter Langkowski gifts Logan a suit made of "Phalanx" nano-tech, which canonically explains how his costume regenerates after taking damage, just like his body.
The outlet also reported on a unique accessibility feature. Players can map a button to control game speed, slowing action down to 30% for cinematic, slow-motion combat sequences, a feature that also appeared in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2.
Following the game's launch, developer Insomniac has responded to feedback. According to IGN and Push Square, the studio stated it is "100% listening" and plans to "further refine the player experience" based on player critiques, while insisting the team is "incredibly proud" of the game.
