James Gunn Would 'Bend Over Backwards' to Bring Margot Robbie Back as Harley Quinn

James Gunn is keeping the door open for Margot Robbie's return to the role of Harley Quinn in his new DC Universe, but he's not sure the star will walk through it.

According to Variety, Gunn stated on a recent podcast that Harley Quinn's future in the DCU is still uncertain. While he declared that his 2021 film 'The Suicide Squad' is 'almost certainly' canon to the new universe, he said Harley's status is the one 'small asterisk.'

Gunn explained that Robbie has become a massive global star. 'She may be over that,' he said of the actress potentially returning to the role she first played in 2016. He noted her busy schedule, which includes starring in the upcoming Tim Burton film 'Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman'.

However, JoBlo reports that Gunn is ready to make it happen if Robbie is willing. The director said he would 'bend over backwards' to include her in the new DCU if she wants to reprise the part.
