John Cena Revs Up First Trailer for Apple's 'Matchbox' Toy Car Movie
Apple TV+ has dropped the first explosive trailer for 'Matchbox,' a big-screen action comedy based on Mattel's iconic die-cast toy cars. Variety reports John Cena stars as a CIA agent who, with a group of childhood friends, must try to stop a global disaster.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, the footage debuted at San Diego Comic-Con with Cena and co-stars Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, and Teyonah Parris in attendance. The film is described as a high-octane, 'fast and furious' ride.
Not every outlet is sold on the premise, however. /Film called the Comic-Con trailer a 'bland-looking spy thriller' that doesn't do its cast any favors, suggesting the toy-to-film adaptation might be running on fumes.
