John Legend cast as Harry Belafonte in apartheid-era Graceland film

EGOT winner John Legend is set to play the legendary singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte in an upcoming drama. According to Variety, the film is titled "The Road Home."

The project, directed by Oscar winner Bill Condon, focuses on South African jazz icons Hugh Masekela and Miriam "Mama Africa" Makeba. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the story centers on the political controversy around Paul Simon's creation of his landmark 1980s album "Graceland."

Legend joins a cast that includes Thabo Rametsi as Hugh Masekela and Cynthia Erivo as Miriam Makeba. Johnny Flynn will portray Paul Simon, with Guy Pearce also appearing, TheWrap reports.
