Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 may be dead as DC develops a new take

Keanu Reeves has been pushing for a sequel to his 2005 film Constantine, but a new report suggests the project could be dead in the water. According to /Film, DC Studios is moving forward with its own new Constantine film.
This creates a major conflict for Reeves' long-brewing follow-up. Per the outlet, the studio's plans for this fresh take on the occult detective do not mention Reeves' sequel at all.
The situation mirrors DC's handling of Batman, where Matt Reeves' separate franchise exists alongside a planned DC Universe version. The report argues that managing two competing Batmen is risky, and having two different Constantines seems even less likely.
DC Studios also has a Swamp Thing movie in development with director James Mangold. While purely speculative, /Film notes it would be a natural fit for John Constantine to appear in that project.
The character was originally dreamed up by writer Alan Moore and artists Stephen Bissette and John Totleben. He first appeared in the pages of Swamp Thing before headlining his own long-running comic, Hellblazer.
