The Odyssey storms back into theaters for an awards season encore

Christopher Nolan’s mythological epic is heading back to the big screen. Per MovieWeb, 'The Odyssey' will return to over 1,000 theaters across the U.S. and Canada starting December 11.
The re-release will include screenings in IMAX and the coveted IMAX 70mm format. The movie, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, was filmed entirely using IMAX cameras, a first for a major studio feature.
The Hollywood Reporter notes the timing coincides with the peak of awards season voting. The film, a major box office success, is expected to be a contender in several Oscar categories.
Universal’s epic has grossed $1.8 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. It also set a new record as the most successful IMAX release in history, according to the outlet.
The return gives audiences a final chance to see the film in premium formats before major holiday releases like 'Dune: Part Three' arrive. It also follows a proven playbook of using a theatrical encore to boost awards visibility.
