Melanie Lynskey to Star in True-Crime Series 'Mushroom Murders' for Paramount+
Melanie Lynskey is heading back to Paramount+ for a new limited series about a notorious Australian crime. According to reports from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer has greenlit "Mushroom Murders," with Lynskey set to star as and executive produce the story of Erin Patterson.
The show will dramatize the 2023 case where Patterson was convicted of murder after a family lunch. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the story centers on a meal where Patterson allegedly served beef wellingtons containing poisonous mushrooms to her in-laws, which led to three fatalities.
The series will specifically cover the 97-day period between that lunch and Patterson's arrest. It has been ordered for six episodes, all to be directed by Daina Reid. The creative team also includes creators and writers Anya Beyersdorf, Deb Balderstone, Dianne Taylor, and Belinda Chayko.
A Paramount Australia streaming executive, Beverley McGarvey, called the project an ambitious addition to their lineup in a statement obtained by the outlets. McGarvey said the team is thrilled to have Lynskey's talent both on screen and as a producer.
Lynskey remains a key player at Paramount+, currently starring in the hit series "Yellowjackets," which is heading into its fourth and final season this November.
