Netflix's Matthew Perry docuseries features family but not his Friends co-stars

A new Netflix documentary exploring the life of Matthew Perry does not include participation from his former "Friends" castmates, according to TVLine.
Director Mary Robertson told Gold Derby that the stars of the iconic sitcom "declined to participate" in the project, titled "The One About Matthew Perry." The outlet notes the director acknowledged the cast were close to Perry and are currently grieving.
The series does feature interviews with other figures from the show's history, including a writer from its first season and the former NBC executive who approved the pilot. Perry's family, particularly his sister Mia, plays a central role.
Per the report, the documentary uses personal photos and home videos to portray the actor beyond his Chandler Bing persona. His sister stated she wanted to show him as a "whole person" and not just someone defined by addiction.
The series also covers Perry's advocacy work, which was recognized with a White House award in 2013, and the later creation of a foundation bearing his name. All three episodes are now available on Netflix.
