Metroid Ravenous, a Dread sequel, launches on Switch 2 in 2027
Nintendo announced Metroid Ravenous, a side-scrolling sequel to Metroid Dread, during a Nintendo Direct broadcast, per IGN. The game is slated for release on January 28, 2027, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a digital price point of $59.99.
The announcement came with a debut trailer, which IGN described as showing Samus Aran being attacked by strange enemies who drain her energy. VGC reports that the narration from Samus reveals she was attacked by unknown assailants and is stranded on a moon. According to the outlets, she vows to survive, stating, "It's eat or be eaten," and says she will "feed on my enemies" to make it home.
While not officially confirmed, IGN and VGC both report that MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, is likely the developer of Ravenous. The game's title had previously surfaced in a quickly removed ratings board listing in Brazil, as noted by IGN and Eurogamer.
Accompanying the game will be new Metroid amiibo figures. IGN and VGC report that separate Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo will be available. A third amiibo, depicting Samus in a "Metroid Suit," will be bundled exclusively with a Special Edition of the game, which also includes a SteelBook case.
Nintendo Life confirmed the January 28, 2027 release date. The game is positioned as the next mainline entry in the side-scrolling series, following 2021's Metroid Dread.
