Netflix is developing a live-action Persona TV series
Netflix is reportedly working on a live-action series based on Atlus's Persona role-playing game franchise, per a report from Polygon. The series is in development through two production companies: Story Kitchen, known for the Sonic the Hedgehog films, and Shawn Levy's 21 Laps, the outfit behind Stranger Things.
According to the report, writer Christopher Monfette is set to pen the adaptation. He would also take on executive producer and showrunner duties. Monfette's previous credits include Star Trek: Picard and 12 Monkeys.
The project is not yet officially greenlit, but it signals Netflix's continued push into video game adaptations. The streamer has found success with animated series like Arcane and Castlevania, but its live-action efforts, such as the Resident Evil series, have been less enduring.
The Persona games typically follow groups of Japanese high school students who navigate everyday life while confronting supernatural threats, aided by mystical entities called Personas. The franchise began in 1996 and its most recent main entry, Persona 5, launched in 2016.
