Sarah Snook to Lead HBO's 'The Birds' Limited Series Reboot
HBO is developing a new take on the classic horror tale 'The Birds' with Emmy winner Sarah Snook set to star, Variety has confirmed.
The series is inspired by both Alfred Hitchcock's iconic 1963 film and the original Daphne du Maurier novella. According to the show's logline, Snook will play Myra Massey, a woman escaping a custody battle who returns to her hometown. She secretly investigates a friend's disappearance while dealing with a killer and a terrifying new threat: deadly bird attacks tied to the crime.
The pilot script was written by Tom Spezialy, who will also serve as an executive producer, per Variety. David Heyman and Danny Samit from Heyday Television will executive produce alongside Snook. Universal Pictures and the du Maurier estate control the story rights, with HBO and Universal Global Television co-producing.
This marks a return to HBO for Snook, who is best known for her role as Shiv Roy on 'Succession'. She recently headlined the Peacock limited series 'All Her Fault'. JoBlo also reported the news of the project's development at HBO.
