Netflix Sets December Release For New 'Pride and Prejudice' Adaptation
Netflix has announced its new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" will premiere on December 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The streaming service unveiled a slate of new cast photos, revealing the full ensemble. Olivia Colman is set to play Mrs. Bennet, with Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet.
Emma Corrin takes on the lead role of Lizzy Bennet, opposite Jack Lowden's Mr. Darcy. The cast also includes Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, and Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet.
Other cast members named include Jamie Demetriou, Rhea Norwood, Siena Kelly, Fiona Shaw, Hopey Parish, and Hollie Avery. The six-part series is written by Dolly Alderton.
Netflix stated the adaptation will "hew closely to the 1813 novel" while also taking "some thoughtful creative turns." Alderton previously called Austen's work "the blueprint for romantic comedy."
