No Man's Sky Cosmos Update Finally Lets You Own Space Stations and Visit Stars

Hello Games has launched its 10th anniversary patch for No Man's Sky, and it's all about making the cosmos feel like home. The update, called Cosmos, is a major overhaul of space itself, per IGN and Eurogamer.

Studio head Sean Murray called it one of the game's "biggest and craziest" updates, noting they've never significantly changed space since launch. The goal, he said, was to make the void feel alive and more like a place players could inhabit.

A top feature is the long-requested ability to buy and own a space station in your chosen solar system. Eurogamer reports you can decorate it inside and out and invite friends over. Players can also construct bases that float freely in the vacuum, creating anything from a truck stop to an orbital restaurant.

The update populates space with new points of interest. There are space hulks to salvage with a gravity gun, new outposts for trading and missions, and asteroid belts with valuable resources. According to PC Gamer, reaching the sun at the heart of your star system is now possible, though it's described as a perilous journey.

A new alliance system lets players band together to build networked empires and climb leaderboards. The update launched alongside a limited-time expedition called 'Our Journey Continues,' which acts as a museum of the game's 40 major updates since 2016.

The Cosmos update is available immediately at no extra cost on all platforms, Hello Games confirmed.
