Ocarina of Time Remake Release Times and Development Details Revealed

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 is set to launch globally on November 5, per IGN. The game is expected to go live at midnight local time, with North American players on the West Coast getting access at 9 PM PT on November 4.

IGN reports the file size is 24.5 GB. The outlet also details a popular workaround where players can access the game early by setting their Nintendo Account region to New Zealand, though this requires local payment methods and may cost more.

In a developer Q&A highlighted by IGN and Nintendo Life, Nintendo explained its reasons for revisiting the classic. Series producer Eiji Aonuma said a key motivation was to teach newer team members about the game's foundational design, hoping it would "trigger new insights" for future projects.

According to the interviews, the development is being handled internally by Nintendo's EPD Production Group No. 3, the same core team behind many recent Zelda titles. Aonuma stated he gave the developers freedom to make changes they felt were necessary, though VGC notes he was surprised by how few alterations they ultimately made.

Nintendo has also announced in-store midnight launch events at its New York and San Francisco locations. The game arrives exclusively on the Switch 2 this week.
