Pokémon Champions director promises turn-based battles are here to stay
The director of Pokémon Champions has confirmed the competitive game will remain the keeper of classic turn-based battles. In an interview with VGC, Masaaki Hoshino stated his personal mission is to preserve that traditional style.
Hoshino said that as long as the game exists, the turn-based system will continue. He explained this is a key reason he joined The Pokémon Company.
The director also addressed the game's limited roster, noting it was curated for newcomers, especially after the mobile launch. He said the selection focused on ease of use, with more complex Pokémon potentially added later.
When asked about adding offline modes akin to Pokémon Stadium, Hoshino ruled it out for now. He told VGC that single-player content would pull focus from the PvP core and increase matchmaking times, so the current focus is on competitive play.
