Ty Burrell Leads Proposed Coach Reboot at NBC

A new version of the classic sitcom Coach is in early development at NBC, according to a Deadline report picked up by TVLine and JoBlo. Modern Family star Ty Burrell is attached as an executive producer and is in talks to play the lead role.
The reboot is being developed by writers Daniel Libman and Matthew Libman. Unlike the original multi-camera format, this iteration would be filmed as a single-camera comedy.
Per Deadline, the story would center on a famed coach who goes back to his roots in Minnesota. His mission is to take over and restore the struggling basketball program at the university he attended while also mending ties with the local area.
The original Coach series, starring Craig T. Nelson, aired on ABC from 1989 to 1997. NBC previously attempted a sequel with Nelson in 2015, but that project was cancelled during production.
