Rebel Wolves' The Blood Of Dawnwalker Is A Hit On A $40 Million Budget
A new vampire RPG is making waves with a surprisingly small price tag.
According to a Bloomberg report highlighted by Kotaku, development studio Rebel Wolves produced its first game, 'The Blood of Dawnwalker,' on a budget of $40 million. The funding came from NetEase, which secured a 26% stake in the studio in exchange.
Kotaku notes the studio's leadership includes former CD Projekt Red developers, with the director of The Witcher 3 among the co-founders. That team, which grew to 160 staff, reportedly stuck to its original vision to ship the game in 2026. Key mechanics involved a vampire day-night cycle and a time limit restricting what players could see in one playthrough.
The outlet suggests borrowing the action-RPG blueprint from The Witcher 3 helped, avoiding the need to start from scratch. The debut title has reportedly sold 1 million copies.
Studio head Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz told Bloomberg the team refused to alter the game's foundational pillars, which he said remained identical to the initial pitch.
