Savannah Film Festival Opens With 'A Talent for Murder', Honors Helen Mirren
The SCAD Savannah Film Festival will kick off its 29th edition with the thriller 'A Talent for Murder' and will present its Legend of Entertainment Award to Helen Mirren, per Variety.
The festival, described as the largest university-run film fest in the country, starts on Saturday, October 24. The opening night will feature a screening of the Anton Corbijn-directed film followed by a Q&A with Mirren, who is set to accept the award in person.
'A Talent for Murder', distributed by Bleecker Street and LD Entertainment, stars Alden Ehrenreich as a man sent by a New York publisher to convince a famous author, played by Mirren, to write one last book for a thriller series.
Festival director Christina Routhier said the organization is 'thrilled' to open with the film and honor Mirren, calling her a 'true master of the craft' whose career offers students a major learning opportunity.
The eight-day event, which typically draws over 74,000 attendees, will showcase a selection of films across multiple categories and host industry panels. Additional programming and honorees will be announced soon.
