Sony Feared Backlash Over Killing PS5 Discs, Tried to Muzzle Staff, Dev Claims

A former God of War developer claims Sony fully expected a firestorm over its plan to end PS5 disc production. Per IGN, the developer says the company saw it as "an enormous PR issue" and gave staff the "strictest" social media guidelines to keep them from talking about it publicly.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, however, is taking a more relaxed view of the digital shift. According to GameSpot, Eurogamer, and others, the executive told investors he doesn't think the move will "disturb" the industry much.

Guillemot suggested there could even be benefits, like hardware costs coming down and the console market becoming more like the PC's digital-first ecosystem, PC Gamer reports.
