South Park Jokingly Changes Its Name to South America Ahead of New Season
Get ready to tune into South America. According to The Hollywood Reporter, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced a satirical name change for the show's 29th season.
In a statement released Tuesday, the duo said they were "inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google" to rename the show. They also thanked their "parent company Paramount - a Skydance Capitulation," per the outlet.
The move is a clear jab at former President Donald Trump, as reported by TVLine. The outlet notes the gag mocks Trump's past pushes to rename geographic features by inserting "America" into them, such as proposing new titles for the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario.
The show released new season art reflecting the temporary rebrand. It wasn't immediately clear if the South America title will stick beyond the premiere.
Per both outlets, the new season kicks off Wednesday, September 16, on Comedy Central. Episodes will also stream the following day on Paramount+.
