The Rings of Power Season 3 is a five-year time jump 'soft reboot'

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is getting a fresh start for its third season, with a major time jump leading the charge. According to TVLine, the new season will kick off a full five years after the events of Season 2's finale.
Showrunner Patrick McKay told IGN this makes Season 3 a perfect entry point for new viewers. He teased that the season "truly starts with people talking about the One Ring." McKay and fellow showrunner J.D. Payne said they were inspired by shows like Battlestar Galactica that have successfully used similar narrative resets.
The outlet reports that the first two installments were shot consecutively, leaving little room for creative adjustments during production. McKay says Season 3 is their chance to finally pivot, calling it "a whole new story" and promising to "blow the doors off the hinges." The goal is a bigger, more focused narrative after two seasons of complex, sprawling plots.
The new chapter will debut this fall. The first four episodes will be available to stream starting November 11.
