Video Game World Mourns Actor Patrick Stewart, Voice of Oblivion's Emperor

The games industry is paying tribute to legendary actor Patrick Stewart, who has passed away at 86, per Eurogamer. An announcement from his official Instagram account stated the actor died at his Los Angeles residence with family and close friends present. The post noted his passing followed a short battle with forms of dementia.

While best known for roles like Captain Picard in Star Trek and Professor X in the X-Men films, Stewart had a significant presence in gaming. His most iconic video game role was as Emperor Uriel Septim VII in Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, where his narration opened the classic RPG.

Developer Bethesda shared an image of the character from the recent Oblivion remaster with a tribute. The studio called Stewart an inspirational figure, extending condolences to his family and friends.

Stewart also provided the narration for the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games and lent his voice to various Star Trek and X-Men titles. In response to the news, players in Star Trek Online organized an in-game memorial, lining up their starships in his honor.

Fellow actors and collaborators shared memories. Hugh Jackman, who worked with Stewart on the X-Men films, called him a tremendous friend and a great of stage and screen. Ian McKellen, a longtime friend, reflected on their decades-long friendship and Stewart's celebrated career.
