Bethesda says The Elder Scrolls 6 is its 'primary development focus'

Bethesda Game Studios has finally given a substantial update on the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI, per a report from ScreenRant.

The studio said in a summer statement, detailed in a post on X/Twitter, that the game is the company's "primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise." It acknowledged the long wait for fans who are still playing Skyrim over a decade later.

The statement also offered a tantalizing hint at the game's progress, saying developers are "loving how it looks, and playing it every day," suggesting a playable build exists. However, the studio did not provide a release window or show any official gameplay.

Another key detail from ScreenRant's report is that both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are being built on a shared technology platform called Creation Engine 3. Bethesda stated this engine, developed since Starfield's launch, allows them to work on multiple projects at once with new tools and systems.

This update comes after industry-wide layoffs at Microsoft, which saw over 50 developers leave Bethesda in July. The studio's statement concluded that those layoffs did not have a major impact on the game's development trajectory.
