Soulframe opens to all next week ahead of major 'violent' update

The fantasy action RPG Soulframe is opening its doors to everyone next week, according to a PC Gamer report. Developer Digital Extremes is preparing for a massive update called Verse of the Veilands, slated for release before the end of next month.
The update will fundamentally reshape the game, per the outlet. The main open landmass, Midrath, will be presented as a corrupted zone, with players tasked with restoring it to life. Creative director Geoff Crookes described the initial state as more unforgiving and harsh.
PC Gamer notes the redesign aims to provide a clearer path for newcomers, offering more ownership over early decisions. The main quest will now directly teach players how to stop siphons that drain the world's color. As areas are cleansed, enemies and resources will shift, and activities like fishing will unlock. Players will also get the chance to nurture a young wolf into a rideable companion.
A new hunter-style Pact, akin to a class, will be added, allowing players to tether foes with a sci-fi bola and launch them with giant balloons. The developers told PC Gamer the update is so substantial they were tweaking it just days before its announcement. Lead designer Scott McGregor called it one of the most significant and aggressive structural overhauls the project has seen in a long time.
